Exceptional parks and open spaces
Surrey Canal will be characterised by generous open public spaces thanks to enhancements to Bridgehouse Meadows as well as new squares and gardens.

Public spaces will be linked by a network of paths and smaller open spaces. Steps will be taken to ensure that they connect with Lewisham’s wider green network.

  • Bridgehouse Meadows will be improved to create a Community Park for the area. Significant investment will be made into play areas and attractive landscaping.
  • Station Square will provide a welcoming setting for  Surrey Canal Road station. This will be complemented by pleasant new public spaces and meeting areas for local people and visitors.
  • Stadium Avenue will help transform the stadium-area into a bustling leisure district. This will include a large selection of new shops, cafes and restaurants that will provide an appealing environment for fans and visitors to meet, socialise or simply pass through.
  • Bolina Gardens will be an attractive green space that largely serves the residential community based at the northern-most point of the development, close to South Bermondsey station.

The Surrey Canal project will reinvigorate this area of London and its adjacent boroughs, whilst improving the quality of living and the range of leisure opportunities for the local community. The ABAE fully supports the programme’s aims for future success within this community.
