A place is only successful if the local community thrives. Surrey Canal will be a great place for everyone – families and children, young couples, single households and older people – all who want to live in a special piece of London that embodies the best of modern, sustainable living.
Links
We will provide much improved local connections, both physical through the paths and crossings and also through improved bus services and connections to the proposed Surrey Canal Road Station. We will upgrade 11 of the surrounding railway arches and provide 3 new underpasses.
Spaces
We will provide new public squares and spaces as well as a new park.
Cafes
Opening out onto the squares, we want to provide new cafes and restaurants so that the area if thriving from morning until night.
Community
This will become a functioning new community which is integrated into the existing community, and we will ensure that it has all the facilities needed to thrive.
Jobs
There is the potential for 2,000 new sustainable jobs, providing a huge economic boost to the area.
Sports
Out ambition is for a new regional centre of sporting excellence with new and better facilities for the Lions Centre, schools, colleges, national governing bodies of sport and existing local sports groups.
Shops
Local shops and services for the new and existing population.
Homes
Up to 2,400 new homes including affordable accommodation.
Health
A new health centre with gps and sports health specialists.
Safety
Community safety is at the heart of our plans and we will be following ‘designing out crime’ guidance, for example in ensuring all areas are overlooked, well lit and feel safe even in the evening.
There is a lack of quality sporting provision in inner London and this scheme can offer a fantastic opportunity to begin to address this deficiency, not only for elite training and talent development in the region, but also for local schools and the wider community.
